CM Services for Construction of the Bayfront Canal and Atherton Channel Flood Protection and Ecosystem Restoration Project

This project created a new underground stormwater diversion structure and culvert system to divert stormwater overflow from the Bayfront Canal and Atherton Channel to neighboring salt ponds. Key elements of construction include a cast-in-place concrete weir and diversion structure, 580’ double box culvert, deep excavation and structure backfill, culvert outfall with flap gates and concrete wingwalls, extensive utility maintenance and protection, roadway paving, and riparian restoration of the jobsite.  The team was faced with significant geotechnical challenges working in San Francisco Bay mud and ecologically sensitive areas.
