This Leader Brings Island Wisdom to Coastal Infrastructure Solutions
In Ikaika Kincaid’s personal and professional life, the ocean has been a constant. Ikaika developed a profound connection to the sea while growing up on Oahu, which evolved into a career that blends engineering and environmental stewardship. A professional engineer and commercial dive supervisor, he now leads Consor’s Pacific team. In addition to cultivating a thriving structural assessment and transportation planning and design practice, Ikaika is building a coastal engineering team deeply rooted in the challenges of island life.
“My upbringing in Hawaii taught me that the ocean is both a powerful connector and a force that demands respect,” Ikaika says. “That’s shaped how I approach every project—understanding the environment is essential for lasting engineering.”
Growing up, Ikaika enjoyed freediving. When his uncle introduced him to scuba diving, Ikaika was hooked—the extended time in the water allowed them to catch more fish to nourish their family. This passion inspired Ikaika’s early career in diving, where he conducted underwater inspections of critical infrastructure, often in challenging, high-risk environments. Add in his background in coastal engineering, and you have the right foundation to grow a coastal engineering practice from the ground up.
“We’re not just solving technical problems; we’re addressing the long-term health of these coastal systems,” Ikaika explains. “It’s a unique blend of science and engineering, and it requires a team that understands both. Our growing coastal engineering team includes Nicole Kapasakis, Andrew Cronin, Gavin Kondo, and Charlotte White, supported by many transportation experts on the Mainland. Our focus is providing resilient solutions for shorelines and critical infrastructure, like marinas, docks, piers, and harbors. We leverage advanced technologies like acoustic imaging and bathymetric surveys to gain deeper insights into underwater environments and help protect vulnerable coastlines from storm events, erosion, and rising sea levels.”
Outside of work, Ikaika’s connection to his culture and the ocean continues through his participation in canoe sailing—he is the President of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association, which his uncle and father started over 35 years ago. His wife, Elizabeth Kincaid, is a transportation planner at Consor who shares his commitment to community-focused infrastructure solutions. Given Ikaika’s commitment to caring for Hawaii’s waters and the communities it supports, he exemplifies Consor’s core value of integrity.
